Not-so-Spooky Greetings

Hi everyone!

The card I have to share today is a bit different.

Spooky Greetings

            MFTSG

It was really easy.  Really!  First I bought one of these:

MMHHThere were several foam stickers on the back (which I removed).  I opened all the windows, removed the ghost, added a tiny black brad to the door knob, and added the “Spooky Greetings” sign (attached with the tiny black brads).

I folded a piece of SU’s Basic Gray cardstock in half, aligned the left edge of the house with the fold line and traced the outer shape of the house.  I also traced the window opening and cut those out with a craft knife.  Once the base was cut, I adhere the house over the cardstock.

I stamped My Favorite Things’ Monster Squad critters, colored them with markers, cut them out and adhered them to each side of the front door.

         MFTSGCCU

Lastly, I re-attached the ghost to the inside of the card so he (I’m assuming it’s a “he”) is peeking out of the window.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Saved by my husband…sort of

TGIM!  🙂

So…curious about that shopping trip?  My husband ended up coming home from work earlier than anticipated so we had lunch together, then shopping.    Well, HE went shopping and left me in the car with the kids!  Oy.  It helped for a bit to have my daughter sit in the third row seat on the opposite side of the car (truck…whatever you want to call an SUV)…until she realized she could still touch the back of her brother’s head with her foot.  “Get your stinking foot out of my hair!”  “I don’t have a stinky foot.  YOU have a stinky foot!”  “Well your whole BODY is stinky!”  “Mom, he said my whole body is stinky!”  “No, I meant her whole body is REALLY stinky!”  Etc., etc., etc.

Was sitting in the car better than going into the store?  I’m not sure.

What happened to the gift?  My son decided a gift card would be best.  Little did he know he sealed his fate of waiting in the car with his sister when he made that decision.   Lesson learned.

Happy Birthday-Super Simple

So what do you do with a gift card when you have no card to slip it in?  I had “gift card” and “card” on the list my husband carried into the store, but his thought was why in the world should he buy a card when I have stacks and stacks of them in my stamp room.  I’ll tell you why.  Because I don’t have anything for a ten-year old boy and a ten-year old boy couldn’t care less if a card is handmade or not so why waste my time or supplies?

So I had to put on my thinking cap.  I needed something quick.  And easy.

I try to keep on hand various sizes of gift bags.  Some are pretty small but just the right size for a gift card.  So I punched a bunch of stars from kraft cardstock and glued them to the front of the bag, clipping off the portions that hung over the edges.  The card is 2 1/2″ square.  So I think I used a 3 1/2″ strip of cardstock, total.  Super easy, super quick and I think it looks ok.  (?)  I’m sure my son’s friend only cared about what was inside anyway.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great day!

A Berry Special Box

My daughter asked me the other day if I would make a little gift box for her friend’s birthday.  I have no idea what she plans to put in this box…or if she’ll even end up using it, but it was fun to make.

A while back I picked up a couple of these little note paper boxes, thinking someday I’d do something with them.  Well, I blew the dust off (lol) and finally did do something (with one of them, anyway).

For a Berry Special Friend

                 MFTBSB2

It was fairly easy to cover the box with the patterned paper.  I used a single-sided print so the paper would be easier to tuck beneath the bright pink sides.  Along the bottom, I did have to pry the side away from the base just a bit to fold the paper over and under.

                  MFTBSBS

The focal image is attached to the band that holds the box closed.  And I used a Bow Easy to form my Strawberry Shortcake-ish bow.  🙂

Let’s Go A-Hoppin’ with My Favorite Things

Hi everyone!  Welcome to this month’s new release hop with My Favorite Things!  If you’ve just popped in here, you might want to go back to the beginning with Kim.  Follow the trail to the end for your very own “treat.” 🙂

Tomorrow brings four fun new releases from MFT.  Puppy Chow and Purrfect Treat ($9 each) are two new label sets that work perfectly with MFT’s 16 oz. square jarsPuttin’ on the Glitz ($17.95)…well, it’s just sweet!  (I’ll have a sample of that one to share tomorrow.)  Also available this month is WTG Catch Some Rays ($15.95).

Tail Waggin’ Treats for a Tail Waggin’ Pup

       MFTTWT

On the left is a 4 1/4″ square card, the center is a treat box made from an A2 card box and on the right is a jar of “puppy chow.”  I do not have a dog so I used beef jerky in the box and coffee flavored chocolate Jelly Belly candies in the jar.  (I’m the puppy.)  🙂

For a closer look at each piece, you can click on these thumbnails.  (The containers were full.  Rolling Eyes)

And here’s A Purrfect Treat.

      MFTPTT

I covered a gift card tin with patterned paper, using a row of mice from the label to create a printed paper ribbon.  The cat is cut out and popped up.  Here’s the inside:

MFTPTTI

I try to keep a small assortment of (empty) gift cards on hand for display purposes such as this.  However, I have no pets (other than three fish which don’t really count) and so I have no pet themed gift cards.  Yes, I could have popped into Pet Smart to pick up a gift card, but then I ran the risk of my children seeing some type of creature they just had to have and I decided it wasn’t worth the drama.  I used a Starbucks gift card rather than show an empty tin.  (Moms of young children, you understand, right?)

MFT’s new product release this month is a Polka Dot Ribbon Nest in perfect-for-summer colors.  (5/8” grosgrain, swiss dot ribbon in bright pink, red, navy, emerald green and yellow), five yards each of the five different ribbons for a total of 25 yards,  $11.95.

An MFT Hop of Cuteness

Hi everyone!  Welcome to the mid-month release hop with My Favorite Things!  If you just popped in here, you may want to go back to the beginning with Kim.  And be sure to check out every stop.  You might find some goodies along the way!

There are two totally adorable sets being released tomorrow:  I Need Coffee Flopsey and Rainy Day Friends.  You know how much I love Flopsey, right?  Well, I really love these Rainy Day Friends.

            RDFAN

This is an altered notepad holder that I’ve had in my stash for who knows how long.  The original was white, so I traced it onto two sheets of pink paper, overlapping the two pieces at the binding.

     MFTRDFI

There’s a pocket on the left, the notepad on the right, and I created a matching bookmark to tuck inside.  Maybe I’ll use the notepad to jot down my summer reading list.  I’ll be spending lots of time at the pool so I need a long list.  (Any suggestions? 🙂 )

The two new totally adorable sets will be available at midnight.  The first 50 orders will receive Heidi Swapp stickers.

Other MFT news this month includes the announcement of two new fabulously talented MFT Design Team members.  Here’s a(nother) BIG welcome to Kathy Daume’ and Barbara Anders.  YAY!  And Barbara happens to be your next stop in the hop!  Pop on over to see what fabulous thingS she has for you!  (That was a hint.)  🙂

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great night/day!

Girls Rock!

    MFTGR5

I started out with an MFT sketch for inspiration for my card, but that ended up taking on a life of it’s own, not looking much like the sketch at MFTGRCU3all in the end.

Using a craft knife, I cut away the center of the drum and turned it into a shaker.  I just happened to have coordinating microbeads that I had purchased years ago.  (Just another of those things I had to have that I figured I’d need some day.  I guess I was right for once. lol.)

I used a black Copic to transform the red heart brads into shiny black ones.

MFTGRT7The inside of the tin holds two packs of Pop Rocks and a gift card.

That bottom left side really is straight and even.  It was just pressed further down into the tin on that side.  I would retake the picture, but after two weeks of pestering, I finally let me children eat the Pop Rocks and the photo would not be quite the same without them.

Please join us tomorrow in the MFT Member Forum for the New Release Cocktail Party 8 – 10 p.m. EST.  During the party, two new MFT design team members will be announced (chosen from the MFT Staming Idol Final Four) as well as the winner of the One-Click Challenge.

Next up on the blog hop trail is mega-talented JODY!

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Each of the design team members have filled a jar with their own “something special.”  I turned mine into a little calendar for a special teacher.

To My Favorite Teacher

          MFTCJ

MFTTLI stamped the label twice (onto patterned paper and cardstock) then placed two magnetic strips between the layers.  The months and dates were printed from my computer onto cardstock, punched out, matted and adhered to inchies.  On the back of each square is a strip of magnetic “tape.”

MFTFTCHere’s a closer pic of the card.  (The apple and books die-cuts are on the lid of the jar as well.)  The apple is raised on a pop dot and I bent up the edges of the “note” just a bit for added interest.

Weekly Spotlight-New Release Sets

MFTSPTGIM!  🙂

The spotlight this week with My Favorite Things is on the May new release sets.  Last week I shared a sample using the new Who’s That Girl set, Girl’s Day In.  Today I have Flopsey… Birthday Flopsey, that is.  He’s so cute holding that great big cake.  And the sentiments in this set are adorable.  I used my favorite here, splitting it between the bag and the card.

Ready…Set…BLOW!

            MFTRSB

I colored Flopsey with Prismacolor pencils, blending with Weber Natural Turpenoid.  I paper-pieced the cake and added separate strips of “icing” to the layers (cut from scraps of white cardstock).

MFTRSBCUHere’s a  closer shot of the little gift card. (It’s 3″ x 3″).

Also available on Wednesday (May 6th, 10 p.m. EST) is an owl set and another set of cute little bunnies.  I’ll have samples of those tomorrow night (Tuesday) at 10 p.m. (EST) when the MFT New Release Blog Hop takes place.
