Weekly Spotlight 5/13-5/19

MFTSPThis week’s spotlight with My Favorite Things is on the new Spring and Summer Cup O’ Buttons.  While no two packs are alike, each one contains one cup of buttons and coordinates nicely with the Spring and Summer paper packs.

My Little Snuggle Bunny

      MFTSB

This went together rather quickly (other than dealing with my psychotic sewing machine).  The layout is simple and there is very little coloring, but it’s a little different.  The smaller front panel is the actual “card” part.

        MFTSBI

The card is held closed using Basic Grey’s small magnetic snaps, each side of the snap hidden between layers of cardstock.

The inside (bigger) card portion is lined to accommodate a couple of cute, snuggly photos.    🙂

Don’t forget to take a peek in the Bubble Bin for great savings on retiring sets.  And be sure to check out this week’s MFT Top Four Idols and vote here for your favorite(s)!  You can vote until 10 p.m. (EST) tonight.

Thanks for stopping by!  I truly appreciate it! 🙂  Have a great day!

I Have a Little Basket… and a Possessed Sewing Machine

I have a little basket where I place all of my new stamps. They sit there, patiently awaiting ink.  That basket is just about to run over so I’m on a mission to use these “new” stamps before they get buried under more new stamps.  (Yes, I have new(er) stamps on the way so I have to do something about this pile.  And really, they should not go unused.  )

Just Because

     SNJB

I used Basic Grey Wisteria again.   (I mentioned I really like it, right?)  I’ve paired it this time with Whiff of Joy’s Willow with Flower Basket

All was well until I got to the stitching.    When I stitched across the green panel the first time, I ended up with a huge wad of loopy thread all the way across the back.  Even though the stitches looked fine on the front, there was no way that panel would lie flat on the card with that mountain ridge of thread underneath.  So I had to cut it off and pull out all the thread.  That meant I also had to cut off the bottom 1/4″ of the green panel (with the threadless holes) and lower it to hide all the holes on the blue paper.  I made some adjustments, checked the stitches on equal weight scrap paper (they were FINE!!!) and returned to my card.  This time the stitches were loose on the front!  UGH!  I couldn’t bear to waste any more of the patterned paper so I did my best to pull the loose threads to the back, ran my adhesive over the stitches (hoping that will hold them in place) and finished my card.  Wacky machine.  If it had a head, it would be spinning in circles (and probably laughing at me).  At any rate, there is now one less stamp in the basket…but quite a few more to go.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Happy Mother’s Day, Part II

Short and sweet…it’s an action-packed day here with haircuts, a winter swim banquet and a play (starring my nephew).   🙂

Here’s the second card I made for Sunday.  This one is for my mom.  (Hopefully she won’t see it before then!)

Happy Mother’s Day

Once again, I used Silhouette Blooms I, huffing, distressing and stitching.  And, of course, I had to add a little heart charm to this one as well.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a WONDERFUL weekend!

Happy Mother’s Day, Part I

It’s finally Friday.  And it finally stopped raining here…for now anyway.  We’ve had rain the last nine days with more predicted this afternoon and tomorrow.  But for now the sun is shining and it’s nice to finally see it.  (Not so nice to feel the 96% humidity, but I guess you can’t have everything, right?)

Happy Mother’s Day

    CHFHMD

This is the card I made for my mother-in-law.  She’s already received it so it’s safe to post.  🙂  (Not that she peeks at my blog anyway…at least I don’t *think* she does.  She still has dial-up so I imagine that might be quite painful.)

I used my friend, Kim’s Silhouette Blooms I.  I colored the stamp with markers then re-huffed (is that a word?) to get the additional lighter impressions.  It’s been a while since I used my edge distresser so I gave it a bit of a workout on this card.

The paper is from Basic Grey’s Wisteria line (the same paper pack used on yesterday’s card.  It’s my new favorite!  I love the patterns and colors.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Getting Krafty

Today’s Ways to Use It challenge is to use kraft cardstock.  Now there’s a color I do not use often enough.  I like it, I just never think to use it for whatever reason.

Sending Love

CHFOFP

I paired kraft cardstock with Basic Grey’s new Wisteria patterned paper, using kraft as my card base, matting and stone wall.  To create the stone wall, I used a Fiskars texture plate with my Cuttlebug. I then rubbed over the raised design with a sponge dabbed into white craft ink.

I cut out the bottom portion of the image so that the girl’s legs could dangle over the “wall,” and I placed a thin strip of a pop dot beneath each leg.

My little white cross-stitches over the sentiment were inspired by my friend Carla.  🙂  She often adds hand-stitching to her cards (which are always amazing).

Thanks so much for visiting!  Have a great day!

Since my pencils were still out after making my Flopsey gift bag set, I decided to use them here on the owls (plus, I really need the practice).

I’m Always Ear for You

   AWEFY

Aren’t they cute?  I love how they’re “holding ears!”  My bunnies were paper-pieced using MFT’s new Chocolate Kiss patterned paper.   I heated the ribbon (from the Chocolate Kiss ribbon bundle) just a bit so I could get the ribbon ends to lay the way I wanted them to.  Bunny tails are cut out and popped up and the button is from one of MFT’s new Cup o’ Button packs (see below).

Also being released tomorrow are the following:

Chocolate Kiss 6×6 Printed Paper Packs (5 sheets each of 5 designs) $5.95

Good Intentions Gone Wrong (really wrong)

Please don’t ask me what was going through my mind when I made this.  I’m not even sure WHY I made this.  Well, I know WHY.  I wanted to use the crocheted flower (a new preorder item at Jacksonbelle Embellishments) and the paper, but I’m just not sure HOW exactly this came from ME.   Do you ever make something that just totally looks like it was made by someone else… and you have no clue who?  **shrugging**

Please be kind… or just very politely back out.  I won’t know.  Better yet, tell me…if you make a card that is totally not you, maybe you still kind of like it, maybe you don’t, do you still bravely post it or do you toss it and run?

Princess to Queen

    PTQ

Eek!

I wanted to make the cat kind of fancy, but I think I got carried away…and then it was too late.  I dropped my gel pen which bounced onto the patterned paper a couple times, leaving some dots I just couldn’t hide, so I then decided to add more to make it look like I did it on purpose.  I should have left it alone.  I don’t “hate” this card, but it’s just so “not me.” I cannot explain.  I wish I’d had time to make another.  (The crocheted flowers are really pretty!)

PTQCUI used one of the cats from Inkadinkado’s Patterned Pets set, adding lots of black 3-d gel pen and sparkle to the different parts of the cat.  The basic coloring was done with Copics.  The crown and sentiment are from Lizzie Anne Designs’ Once Upon a Time.

The crocheted flowers come in a package of eight, are about one-inch in diameter and hand-crafted by Melody Schwartz (a.k.a. Lacyquilter from Splitcoast Stampers).   They are GORGEOUS!

Be sure to check out what Lindsey‘s design team has done with the flowers.  I’m sure their cards/projects are fabulous!

Beth, Heather, AJ, Kimberly, Michelle, Melissa, Jill, Maren, Kisa, Jennifer, Shannan, Taylor, and Lynda.

If you read this far after seeing my card, THANK YOU!   You are very kind.  🙂

Weekly Spotlight-New Release Sets

MFTSPTGIM!  🙂

The spotlight this week with My Favorite Things is on the May new release sets.  Last week I shared a sample using the new Who’s That Girl set, Girl’s Day In.  Today I have Flopsey… Birthday Flopsey, that is.  He’s so cute holding that great big cake.  And the sentiments in this set are adorable.  I used my favorite here, splitting it between the bag and the card.

Ready…Set…BLOW!

            MFTRSB

I colored Flopsey with Prismacolor pencils, blending with Weber Natural Turpenoid.  I paper-pieced the cake and added separate strips of “icing” to the layers (cut from scraps of white cardstock).

MFTRSBCUHere’s a  closer shot of the little gift card. (It’s 3″ x 3″).

Also available on Wednesday (May 6th, 10 p.m. EST) is an owl set and another set of cute little bunnies.  I’ll have samples of those tomorrow night (Tuesday) at 10 p.m. (EST) when the MFT New Release Blog Hop takes place.

Don’t forget to check out the Bubble Bin this week for some great savings!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great day!
