You Warm my Heart

Hi everyone. : )  I have to be quick today.  We have three 10-year olds sleeping over tonight so I need to straighten things and run a few errands (and hopefully have time for a little stamping later).

You Warm my Heart

      MFTWHP

This sweet little girl is from the new Pure Innocence line at My Favorite Things.

MFTWHCU2Her hat and boot trim, scarf and mittens are covered with white Fun Flock and I used a clear Spica glitter pen to add sparkle to the snowballs and ground.

If you missed my tutorial on coloring these sweet faces, you can see it HERE.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great day!

It’s JiFFy Time!

Hi everyone!  It’s time for our October Just For Fun challenge with the JiFFy girls!  We’re a little late but that’s ok.  We’ll catch up!

This month Alli selected paper from My Mind’s Eye Colorful Christmas Collection.  Once it was in the mail to each of us and before anyone knew what she had chosen, Julie selected Papertrey Ink’s Autumn Abundance.   I love the paper (so cute!) and I love the image but what a challenge this time!  I wasn’t sure how in the world I was going to make Christmas/winter paper work with a bouquet of mums.   So I ended up using the back sides of the two wintry patterns.

Thanks Just Doesn’t Seem Like Enough

 OFP

I wanted to try to make my pitcher of flowers look like it’s sitting on a table with a cloth.  I used a craft knife to carefully cut around the bottom of the pitcher, slid my orange paper beneath, added the lace trim and matted the image.

Be sure to check out the other JiFFy girls to see what they did with the same paper and image!

Cards for Kids (Just Sayin…)

Hi everyone!  🙂

Cards for kids…hmmmm.  Although I like making “kid” themed cards, I don’t always want to put too much work into them.  Honestly, the kids don’t (usually) care and the card will most likely end up in the trash right after it’s opened.

I made a shaker card once for a friend’s five year old daughter.  I thought the child might enjoy seeing things moving inside the card when shaken.  Fun for a kid, right?  Yes, until it’s handed over to the younger sibling only to have it ripped to shreds with tiny beads flying everywhere.  The mom told me all about it.  (Really?  Did I need to know that my hard work was handled so carelessly and destroyed so swiftly?)  And to top it off, the mom was upset with me for giving her child something that caused a mess in her home.  (REALLY??)

That situation totally changed my thought process when making a card for a child.  Keep it simple.  In some cases REALLY SIMPLE.

Happy Birthday

OFP

This card is kind of simple, no fancy doo-dads or moving parts, but I did put enough effort into it to carefully consider the recipient.  Noone wants to hear about the destruction (or discarding) of their creative work, no matter how much effort was put into it.   Just sayin…

I’ll be back tomorrow with our October JiFFy challenge!  We’re a bit behind, but better late than never, right?  (In this case, anyway.)  🙂

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great day!

To Stitch or Not to Stitch

Hi everyone!  Time for a challenge with Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamps!  This week’s challenge is to “Stitch it Up.”  It can be real or faux.  Since I’ve been on a stitch kick (machine, that is), I couldn’t resist playing.  🙂

You Make Me Happy

     KKHC2

I used my favorite Twisty Girl, Charlotte (Moonlight Whispers), and Kimmie’s Everyday Sentiments.  I stitched all around Charlotte, then around the patterned paper as well, switching to zig-zag along the right side.

If you’d like to play along, you can find the challenge info HERE

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great day!

p.s.  I’ve been promoted from “Krafty Friend” to “Krafty Girl!”  YAY!!!  🙂

Thinking of Hoo…Thinking of You

Hi everyone. 🙂   I wanted to quicky share a card using MFT’s October kit, Thinking of Hoo.  It’s my favorite so far of all the kits.  That little owl is too cute.

Thinking of Hoo

     MFTH2

I used the Memory Box Butterfield patterned paper from the kit as well as the baby metal braddies.

I stamped the owl/branch onto the “sky” paper then again onto cream cardstock.  I colored the images on the cream cardstock then cut them MFTH3CUout and adhered them over the sky paper.  I did this to add just a bit of dimension without popping things up.

I used a black 3-d glaze pen on the eyes and then stamped the two hearts below the branch and drew in tiny strings.

There are only a few of these kits left so if you want one, you need to hurry!  The stamp set may or may not be released later on its own.  (I’m hoping it is because I adore it!)

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Stamps: MFT “Thinking of Hoo” (October kit)    Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black   Cardstock: Papertrey Ink Vintage Cream (base)   Patterned Paper:  Memory Box Butterfield   Accessories: Copic markers (E33, E35, E37, E57, W00, W1, YR23, R85), black Sakura 3-d glaze pen, MFT metal Baby Braddies, sewing machine.  Finished size 5” x 5”.

Double digits…already

Happy birthday to my little guy…who isn’t so little any more.  🙁

Look Who’s Turning 10

     CHFTT

Last night we finished most of his homework so hopefully he won’t have to spend too much time on that tonight.  I have balloons tied to the chairs, and his birthday dinner planned:  Mini (tiny) muffin-sized meatloaves (with no ketchup), Pokemon macaroni and cheese, green beans and dessert, of course.  He didn’t pick the green beans but there has to be a vegetable in there somewhere, right?  (I won’t be surprised at all if Dad comes home with a take-out bag from somewhere.  He thinks anything other than a hamburger is a waste of ground beef.  And the Pokemon mac n’ cheese?  Let’s just say that’s not his favorite either.  But when HIS birthday rolls around in a couple weeks, HE can choose what HE wants.   Part of MY entertainment for the evening is seeing if he will eat.  lol.)

I still have gifts to wrap so I better get to it.  Have a great day, and thanks for stopping by!

Stamps:  Cornish Heritage Farms “U R A Hoot!”, “Number Fun” and “Birthday Bash” (Kim Hughes Collection)   Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black   Cardstock: Prism Island Mist Dark   Patterned Paper: Cosmo Cricket “The Boyfriend” mini deck   Accessories: Copic markers (E31, E33, E35, YR20, YR23, BG05, YG93, R05, W1, W3, W5, W7), Karen Foster Thumb Tack brads.  Finished size 5 ½” x 5 ½”.

November Hoppin’ with MFT (and a new line!)

Hi everyone!  Welcome to the November new release hop with My Favorite Things!  If you’re just popping in here, you may want to go back to the beginning with Kim.  If you’ve just come from Cindy, then you’re in the right place.  🙂

This month, MFT is releasing 11 new sets, five of which are in the Pure Innocence line, new to MFT!  This little girl has the sweetest face and I just love coloring her.   This month she’s holding a balloon, an apple, snowballs, a flower…or she’s standing in the snow.  As I said in a previous post, it doesn’t matter what she’s doing.  She is CUTE!  You can buy all five sets with just one click HERE.

All of the new releases are available right now (right HERE), but BEFORE YOU GO, remember that there is blog candy hidden somewhere along the hop so be sure to comment on each post to increase your chances of winning!

Sending a Flurry of Love

SYTYCS Contest, Week 5 Contemporary

It’s Week 5 of My Favorite ThingsSo You Think You Can Stamp contest.  This week’s theme is “Contemporary–Fresh and modern, think clean lines and simple style.”  Well, I was totally scratching my head on this one.  My work is usually not modern and it’s usually not clean or simple.  It was scary.  But I tried.

Think Snow #1

     MFT TSW

No patterned paper!  GASP!

I used MFT’s new Cool Yule set which will be available tonight at 10 p.m.   I tried to keep everything pretty white, or in this case cream.  But it was killing me.  So….

I kicked it up a notch or two while still trying to keep it pretty simple.

Think Snow #2

     MFTOFP

That’s a big ol’ button from one of my MFT button scoops with a white glitter dot in the center.   I stamped the scarf a second time, added white dots, then cut it apart to add some fringe and dimensional boosters beneath a few of the ends.

If you’d like to play along, you can check out all the contest rules and details HERE

All entries for this week’s theme must be uploaded to SCS by Monday, November 9th.  Be sure to check out the details.  There are a few specifics you’ll need to know.  Let’s see your contemporary projects!  )

I’ll be back at 10 p.m. tonight for the MFT New Release blog hop!  Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Stamps:  MFT “Cool Yule”   Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black   Cardstock: Papertrey Ink Vintage Cream, Prism Teal   Patterned Paper: Cosmo Cricket Jolly by Golly Mini Deck   Accessories:  Copic markers (BG0000, BG01, BG10, W00, W1, R0000), Webster’s Pages trim, MFT button, white glitter dot, white string, Cuttlebug snowflake embossing folder, Dew Drops, dimensional boosters.  Finished size (both cards): 5” x 5”.

MFT Preview–Cool Yule

Today the My Favorite Things team is previewing Cool Yule, a cute new wintry set to be released tomorrow, Wednesday, November 4th.

Happy Freezin’ Season

    MFT HFS

There isn’t much to color on a polar bear so I just added a bit of pink here and there and a little “eggshell” shading.  I also outlined the oval and the swoosh mark with Stardust Stickles.

Pure Innocence Monday

Today the My Favorite Things design team is previewing a new line in the store, Pure Innocence.  I’ve been so eager to begin posting samples using these images.  I think this little girl is just the sweetest!   I love her no matter what she’s doing!  On Wednesday, November 4th, MFT is releasing FIVE Pure Innocence images.  And they are ALL totally adorable!

Birthday Girl

OFP

I’ve received many emails asking how I color faces so I took a few extra pictures as I colored this image.  Please know that I am not an expert and have never taken a Copic class.  I’ve just stumbled along the way, learning by trial and error and what I pick up from other designer blogs.

MFTPI1I always color skin tone areas first.  That way, if I make a mistake, I’m not recoloring the entire image.  I find it easier to make corrections in other areas as opposed to faces.

As a general rule, I use the same three basic Copics for skin tones — E000, E00 and R20.

First I color the entire area with E000.

.

MFTPI2

Next, I color the cheeks.

I lightly touch the tip of my E000 marker to the R20 marker and begin applying the color to the cheek area.  If I have too much pink on the marker, I swipe the extra off onto scrap paper, then use E000 to blend in the pink.

It’s best to apply just a bit of pink at a time as it’s easier to add than to take away.

MFTPI3The next step is to add a bit of shadow.

Using an E00 marker, I add a bit of color along the hairline and sides of her face.

I use this marker to add a bit of darker color to necks, arms and legs as well.

It sometimes looks like this shadow color is too dark, but it will all blend together in the next step.

.

MFTPI4Lastly, I color over the entire area at least once with the E000 marker.

Pretty easy (in my opinion…with these three markers…I’d be lost without them)!

Want to see more samples using the new Pure Innocence images?   Check these out:

Amy, Melody, Cindy, Frances, Susan, Kirsten, Natalie, Kathy,
Jessie, Christina, JodyBarbara and Joanne.  (I think we all really like this new line!)

And yes, I realized (a little too late) that I adhered the cherry paper upside down.  Just thought I’d point that out before Eagle Eye (E.E.J.) makes a comment.  lol.  (She knows who she is.)

I’ll be back tomorrow with a preview of another new release.  Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great day!  🙂
