Hoppin’ with a new MFT Illustrator!

Welcome to the March mid-month release with My Favorite Things!  If you’re just popping in here, you may want to go back to the beginning of the hop with Kim.  If you’re coming in from Kimmie‘s blog, HELLO!

As you’ve probably already heard, we’re welcoming a new illustrator this month, Sara Williams!  She’s designed two fabulous and funky flower sets for us.  🙂

I’m Here for You

     MFTHFY

Here I’ve used Sara’s Funky Flowers.  The layout was heavily inspired by an older Page Maps card sketch.  I cut out all the leaves, popping them up on the pointed edges.  This was not my initial plan.  I did it to cover a mistake, but I really like how this turned out.  (Hopefully you can’t see my boo-boo!)  When cutting out the flowers, I cut between the petals so I could bend them up in places, adding a bit more dimension.  The sentiment is from MFT’s Rain or Shine set.

You Are My Sunshine

    MFTYAMS

This card uses Sara’s Spring Sprouts set.  The centers (except for the outer colored band) are raised on pop dots.

URMSCU3You can find these new sets right here, right now.   🙂

Here are some additional details:

  • First 50:   The first 50 customers will receive an assortment of acrylic flowers.

Weekly Spotlight 3/16-3/20

MFTWSPTGIM!  This week’s spotlight with My Favorite Things is on the crystal collections.  These 4mm Swarovski crystals are very clear and sparkly.  When I say “clear” I don’t mean you can see through them, but they are not “cloudy” or plasticy like some crystals.   They’re very nice and come in two different collections, spring and summer. Each package contains approximately 20-25 crystals each of four colors, for a total of about 80-100 crystals.  I used the spring colors here with MFT’s Spring Collection paper pack.

Celebrate in Style

       MFTCIS

I used the green crystals on the bigger dog’s color and yellow and cotton candy Stickles on the two smaller dogs’ collars.

MFTCISCUMy Stampin’ Up mat pack/piercing template worked great in aligning the crystals.  I had three crystals on the table, laid my template over them so that one was in each of the smaller holes and pressed down just enough so that the crystals stuck in the template.  I added a tiny drop of glue to the back of each crystal, laid the template on my card and gently pressed each crystal out of the template, perfectly aligned.  🙂

If you’d like to play along with this week’s “Who’s That Girl” (WTG) Challenge hosted by Christina and Joanne, you can find the details here.  We’re using this set, Let’s Go for a Walk, with bling.   (You don’t have to use this set, so don’t let that stop you from playing, ok?)

  • Time-saving idea for Copic users:  Once I’ve matched my Copic markers to my patterned paper, I jot down the color numbers on the cover of the patterned paper pack.  That way I don’t have to waste time figuring out the matches the next time I use that paper.  (But if there are reduced images of the patterned paper on the cover, don’t write over those. You can often use them for paper-piecing small areas.)

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great day!  (Oh, and don’t forget to check the Bubble Bin for GREAT savings!!)

Stamps: MFT “Let’s Go for a Walk”   Ink:  Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black   Cardstock:  Stampin’ Up Green Galore, Black; Prism Super Smooth White   Patterned Paper:  MFT Spring Paper Pack   Accessories:  Copic markers, MFT Adornments Swarovski Crystals Spring Collection, Yellow and Cotton Candy Stickles, 1 ¼”, 1 3/8” and scalloped circle punches by EK Success, Sakura black 3-d gel pen (on eyes and noses), Helmar glue (to adhere crystals), pop dots.  Card size 5” x 5”.

Happy Birthday to “My Girl”

TGIF!  I’m in a bit of a funk today…don’t know why.  It’s just an “eh” kind of day, so this will be short (and maybe a little sweet).   🙂

Happy Birthday

      HBL

This is the card I made for my girl’s birthday.  I say “my girl” because she and I have this little thing…  I say “My girl” and she says “My mommy.”  It’s so cute.  And I know it won’t last, so I’ll take it while I can get it.  🙂

HBLVCUI used Luvvie by Leanne Ellis, popping up her hands and the heart. The flower in her hair is popped up as well.

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

StampsSugar Nellie “Luvvie” (Leanne Ellis); sentiment from Cornish Heritage Farms “Tag! You’re It!” (Kim Hughes Collection)   Ink:  Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black   Cardstock:  Prism Intense Teal, Natural Smooth   Patterned Paper:  Cosmo Cricket “Girl Friday” Thursday and Saturday   Accessories:  Copic markers, Basic Grey button, Sakura 3-d black gel pen, clear embossing powder (sentiment), white string, pop dots.

Going Green…literally

Happy Thursday!  Today’s WT Challenge at SCS is “going green.”  We can recycle, reuse, anything of that nature.  Or with St. Patrick’s Day right around the corner, we can take that literally and use green on our card or project (like I did here).

{make a wish}

     MAW3

I used Springtime Lily by Stampavie (purchased from All That Scraps), coloring her with Copics to match my patterned paper.  I  “rearranged” the striped patterns a bit to MAW3CUaccommodate my sentiment. (The stitching helps to hide the cut line.)  I also added some brads over the circles along the top edge within the scallops.

The center “lace” piece was cut out from additional paper and stitched at the top edge to add just a bit more interest.

My little clovers and butterfly were cut out and popped up by placing a tiny drop of glue only in the centers and bending up the edges.

MAWIFAnd I used a scrap strip from the patterned paper to quickly and very easily finish the inside.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Stamps:  Stampavie “Lily Springtime” (Rachelle Anne Miller); Cornish Heritage Farms “Birthday Centers” (Mona Lisa Moments)   Ink:  Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black, Adirondack Pitch Black   Cardstock:  Prism Herbal Garden Light and Dark, Suede Brown Dark; Paper Trey Ink white   Patterned Paper:  Rusty Pickle “Lucky”   Accessories:  Copic markers, SU brads, Star Dust Stickles, clear embossing powder (sentiment), sewing machine, pop dots.  Card size 5 ¼” x 5 ¼”.

Whipper Toddlers

Time for some more Whipper babies! 🙂  Aside from the stitching on the second card, these went together pretty quickly.

Wanna Snuggle?

    WSWS

This is Jackson.  Isn’t he cute?  The sentiment is from Anna’s Winter Schminter set.

You’re So Sweet

    WSYSS

And this is Chloe.  I had (have) just a few scraps of this paper left and I thought it was a perfect match to her pj’s.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Weekly Spotlight 3/9-3/13

MFTWSTGIM!  🙂

This week’s spotlight with My Favorite Things is on the 6″ x 6″ paper packs.  They are currently available in Spring and Summer collections.  There are 25 sheets per pack, five patterns, five sheets of each.   Also available are matching collections of ribbons, doo-dads and sparkly things. 🙂

Have you seen the Bubble Bin?  The Bubble Bin is a selection of stamp sets that may be retiring or there may just be too many of a particular set in inventory that week.  Each Monday the sets will change, quanitites may be limited and sale prices will run from Monday to Sunday (or until they’re gone), so be sure to check it out each week to see if there’s something you “need” in the Bin!

Tea-rific Friend

     MFTTRF

I couldn’t wait to get this Tea for Two set.  It’s just so darn cute.  I didn’t know which image to use first!  (Looks like it’s currently sold out but I’m sure it’ll be back in stock soon!  If you want it, keep checking.  These cute little guys fly out the door!)

MFTTFCUI paired the little tea cup mouse with MFT’s Summer paper pack, coloring with Copics and adding a bit of clear 3-d gel pen over the tiny heart and nose then a couple dots of black over the eyes.

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

I had to make time today to play with my new Gorjuss Girls from Sugar Nellie.  I  them!  I do, I do, I do!!!  They are SO cute!

Hello

     HGG

I colored her with Copics, used a Copic to color the flourish and embossed the sentiment so it would show up better on the patterned paper.

I’ll be back soon! Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great night/day!

Hopping Along with MFT

Welcome to the March release blog hop with My Favorite Things!  If you’re just popping in here, you might want to go back to the beginning with Kim.  You never know what you might miss.  Rolling Eyes (Seriously! lol)

Tonight (3/4) at 10 p.m. EST My Favorite Things is releasing five new sets, Hangin’ with My Peeps, Tea with Flopsey, Monsters Ink, Hooga Booga and Nite Nite Ellie.  I have samples to share using Flopsey and Ellie.  🙂

A Cup of Tea

    ofp

I picked up a little Tazo tea box from Starbucks, opened it out flat and traced it onto cardstock, then made a little wrap to go around the outside.

Sweet Dreams SDDH

Nite Nite Ellie was designed to help raise money for St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital.  $2 from each retail set sold in the next six months will go to St. Jude’s.  That’s so nice!

I used the small square from the patterned paper label to piece Ellie’s pj’s.  Her slippers were stamped a second time, cut out and adhered over the first ones with no adhesive behind the ears so they stick out a bit.  I also used a black 3-d gel pen on Ellie’s little buttons.

My Favorite Things is having a New Release Cocktail Party on Wednesday, March 4th from 9-10 PM EST. Head over to the MFT forumto find out all the details and to find out how YOU can be the next MFT Guest Designer. We hope to see you there!

But before you go, check out Kimmie‘s blog!  She’s next in the hop.  🙂

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great day!

It’s a Terribly Scary Thing

I know someone with breast cancer who is having a hard time dealing with the the side effects of chemo, not to mention the obvious fear of what is happening or what might happen to her body.  My heart just breaks for her.  I can only imagine how terryibly scary it would be.  I wanted my friend to know that I’m thinking about her and praying for her.  And I wish I could just make everything better.

Thoughts of You

     TOYP

This card is so much softer than it appears here.  The light pinks are soft pink and the darker pink is not so mauve-ish looking.  (So irritating.)  I know people often say “It looks SO much better in person” and I’m sure it does, but I always wonder if people are really thinking, “Sure it does….” with a big eye roll.  I promise this one DOES look better in real life.  Rolling Eyes

I used Ranger distress inks to stamp the flowers, stamping off as many times as I could for lighter impressions, then stamped off onto scrap paper once before stamping the ribbon in the corner.  The buttons are a soft pink, like the lighter pink cardstock, not as dark as they look in this photo.  Rolling Eyes  (lol)

I used a Paisley backgrounder (Scrapblock, actually) on the lighter pink, a different one with darker ink on the darker piece.  Even with using darker ink on the darker cardstock, the ink has totally disappeared.  I’ve had this happen before (it’s one of the reasons I don’t often use backgrounder stamps…the other and more prominent reason being that patterned paper has made me lazy).  If you use Prism cardstock and Ranger ink, have you had this happen?  It’s there…and then it isn’t.   Don’t get me wrong, I really like Prism paper….maybe it’s the ink?  Maybe it’s just not a good combo?  I don’t know but I’ve never seen that happen with Stampin’ Up ink and cardstock.  It’s so weird.
I hope you’ll come back tomorrow (tonight actually, at midnight, EST) for the My Favorite Things March release blog hop!  It’s always so much fun!  Have a great day!

StampsCornish Heritage Farms “Silhouette Blooms I” (Kim Hughes Collection), “Ribbons”, “Paisley” Scrapblock   Ink:  Tattered Rose and Old Paper Distress by Ranger; Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black   Cardstock:  Prism Crabapple Medium and Light, Natural Smooth   Accessories:  Basic Grey buttons, sewing machine, pop dots.

Hooga Booga to You-ga

MFTSL

TGIM!   🙂   This week’s spotlight is on the new releases this month by My Favorite Things.  This Wednesday, March 4 at 10 p.m. EST, MFT is releasing five new sets.   I love them all so much, I had a hard time deciding what to share today.

Do You Need a Hug?

     DYNAH

Meet one of the Hooga Booga “monsters.” These guys (or gals) are very sweet and not so scary at all.  They remind me a little bit of Boobahs…only much cuter.  The set comes with six very sweet sentiments, three “Hooga Boogas,” clouds, flowers, grass and hearts.

Then there’s Monsters Ink.

BITE

BIITEOTB

This is a really fun(ny) set with three sentiments (all “eye” related) and quite a few monsters with lots of little pieces to dress them up.  I can’t wait to play with this set some more.  I have one friend who has been a bit harsh with me and my little eye issue (all in good fun) so she’s first on my list to get a card using this set.    (It won’t be this card.  Eye have another eye-dea for her.  She knows who she is. )

Once the new sets are available (on March 4th, 10 p.m. EST) there are a couple of deals for you:

  •  Buy the March collection for $65.85 (five sets) and receive a free stamp set (stock manager’s choice), or
  • Supersize your order to $100 and receive two free stamps sets (stock manager’s choice)

The above specials are good through March 6th, 11:59 p.m. EST.
