Plain ol’ Wood…What to Do

HHCCD1So today’s WT challenge over at Splitcoast Stampers is to use wood.  Hmmmm… I only had two things that were made of wood–a box and a frame, so I went with the frame. (This one was $1 from Michaels.)

To get the “mitered” corners, I cut four strips of the patterned paper.  I adhered the top and bottom strips, then laid the left and right strips over the top and bottom ones, marked the corners, then cut the paper from my marks to each outside corner. That’s the easiest way I’ve found to get that look.  I added the orange dots with an orange 3-d gel pen and the “stitch” lines with a black marker.  The “Happy Halloween” was centered using my Stamp-a-ma-jig.

The inside square is covered with a different pattern from the same Memory Box package.  I stamped the spider and pumpkins (by C.C. Designs available at All That Scraps) onto Bazzill Coconut Smoothies and colored them in with Copic markers.  I *think* I’m finally getting the hang of shading with those!  The eyes are colored in with a black 3-d gel pen so they’re nice and shiny.

The small pumpkin is adhered directly to the paper while the big one is popped up on a dimensional.  The spider is raised on three dimensionals with the string tucked between the first two then wrapped around to the back and tucked in between the frame and the insert.

Thanks for stopping by!

Cardstock:  Bazzill Coconut Smoothies     Patterned Paper:  Memory Box “Spooky Collection”     Stamps:  C.C. Designs Halloween set     Ink:  Brilliance Graphite Black     Accessories:  Copic markers (Y17 Golden Yellow, Y38 Honey, YR68 Orange, YG06 Yellowish Green, W7 Warm Gray, BV29 Slate), SU Black marker, Sakura 3-d black and orange glaze pens, black twill, dimesionals, white string.  Finished frame size 5” x 5”.

Spooky Delights Candy Bar Card

SD3

I had fun making this little candy bar card using C.C. Designs’ new Halloween set (available from All That Scraps)!   Where’s the candy bar?  It’s in a little pocket on the back side of the card.  I have some black twill tied around the bar with a little tag attached with white string.  You pull the twill and out comes the bar (and it’s FULL size! 🙂 ).  Here’s how I did it:

SDBCS

.

I cut the black cardstock to 6 1/2″ x 11″.  Score at 3 1/4″, 6 1/2″, 6 3/4″ and 10″; fold as shown.  Your cardstock will look like this …………………………………………………>

(mountain fold, valley fold, valley fold, valley fold)

.

Fold the back flap (“C”) to the left toward the back (fold line) of the card front (“A”).

Apply liquid glue or tacky tape to adhere the flap.  I used Tombow Mono Multi…………………………………………………………..>

You now have your pocket for the candy bar.  If you’d like, you can punch a hole (through both layers of the “pocket”) along the right edge and thread ribbon through as described here.

.

.F1A

<………………..Your card should look like this.

Now you can decorate your card any way you’d like.

I chose this cool, shiny eyeball paper, adding some glossy black dots in each “eye” using a 3-d gel pen.  I stamped the bat and sentiment, trimming so that the bat’s wings come “out of the box.”

The sentiment panel is raised on dimensionals, but before adhering it to the patterned paper, I tucked in the little ghost.  It just worked out that he can slide up and down as his tail is “hooked in” by the pop dot in the lower right corner.

Tie twill and tag onto the candy bar and slide it in!…………………………………………………..>

Lastly, I made this little 2-4-6-8 box for some more “spooky delights.”  I covered each side with small panels of eyeball paper, adding the black dots and a few stitches, then punched two holes through all layers, inserting and knotting the twill to close the box.

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Coffee and Friends…Perfect!

CAFPB

This set, Hot Stuff, is probably my most used set by My Favorite Things.  Probably the fact that I just LOVE my lattes has something to do with it.  I can’t go a day without my Starbucks!    Well, I can but…let’s not think about “those” days!

There’s a sketch challenge posted today in MFT’s new Member Company forum at Splitcoast Stampers.  Check it out!   I only modified the sketch a tad.

As on most of my MFT cards, I paper-pieced the girl by stamping the image first onto the pinkish paper (mostly as a guide for placing the pieces).  The dress, arms and coffee cup were all pieced and glued to the pink background square.  I colored the inside of the tiny cup with a brown marker.  The larger cups were stamped on various coordinating prints and cut out and “hung” on the brads.  I used an X-acto blade to cut inside each handle and there’s a pop dot under each cup for some added dimension.

When I thought I had completed the front panel, it still looked a bit bare to me in spots, so I added some faux stitching using my mat pack and a Sahara Sand marker.  The card base is Very Vanilla.

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Witchtacular!

WTCLR1

I know I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again….I love these bugs!!  I think they’re just adorable!

Here I used the little bug witch and sentiment from C.C. Designs new Halloween set available from All That Scraps.  I colored the witch with Copic markers, adding little shiny dots of trim with a 3-d gel pen.  I scribbled in the border (adding the word “boo” here and there) with a black marker, going back over the dots with the 3-d gel pen.  They’re raised and shiny like the ones on her dress!

Thanks for stopping by!! 🙂

A Special Gift for a Special Friend

TPGS3

Hello there!  I couldn’t wait to show you this set, but I wanted to wait until the gift had been given before posting…

The minute I saw this new set from My Favorite Things, Think Pink, I knew I had to have an extra for a dear friend of mine who has battled breast cancer.   (This is the same friend who actually got me hooked on stamping!  Thank you, Tina!!

With the three little notecards and envies, I placed in the bag the stamp set, several acrylic blocks, a Brilliance Graphite Black stamp pad and a bag of Double Chocolate Milano cookies.  She loved it!

I paper pieced the girls shirts (and even the tiny little pink ribbons).

I wanted to use this particular image on the outside of the bag, but once I had it together, I thought the image looked too small and the bag too big.  Then I had the idea of wrapping the pink twill around the handle and using the image in the center.  I was much happier with the result!

I’d like to mention once again that 50% of the proceeds from each Think Pink set sold (both retail and wholesale) will be donated to the research of breast cancer.  Every little bit helps!  (You can see the whole set here.)

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Boo to You!

ST1Here’s a quick little card using Spooked by  Lizzie Anne Designs with bling in the trees for the WT challenge at SCS today!  I just love this set…those bones!! 🙂

I used a small scrap of Halloween patterned paper, left over from another project.  After stamping the house/tree image, I added some small dots with glitter pens, trying to pick up some of the colors from the paper.  Then I added some tiny Hero Arts gemstones.  (Now I wish I would have picked up every assortment of these when I saw them.  I love their tiny size.)

I used my SU grid paper to evenly space the bones in the background, my mat pack to evenly space the eyelets and my Crop-a-dile to set them.

Not much more to say here. It’s a really simple little card, but I like it!  Have a great day!

Quick and Easy High Hellos!

HHFI had a bit of time this morning so I thought I’d play along with the sketch challenge at SCS.  I like this sketch–you make a standard card, cut off about 1″ from the right front side, decorate the exposed inside and add an overlapping image to the front!

The base of the card is vanilla cardstock. I used the coordinating solid color from the back of the flower print to cover the card front and that little bit of the inside.  Then I added the panels of patterned paper.

The tall flower and sentiment are from High Hellos by Lizzie Anne Designs.  (Such a cute set!)

I colored the flower using Copic and SU markers.  (I had to use both because I only have one yellow Copic and it’s *really* bright.)  The ribbon is from Jacksonbelle Embellishments

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Warm Wishes–Color Challenge

WWHB1I have tons of other things I should be doing this morning, but I couldn’t resist today’s color challenge at SCS–use River Rock, Black and Basic Gray.  I don’t have the new Basic Gray, so instead I used a piece of patterned paper from Basic Grey’s Periphery paper pad.  Too bad very little of it shows as it has a nice little fancy pattern on it!

Anyway, I stamped the image (available AND on sale here) in black and used some River Rock and Basic Gray-ish Copics to add a bit of color.  I then went over some areas with the colorless blender pen to add a bit of highlight.  If you look closely, you can see that I stamped Linen in River Rock on the card base.  I also distressed and sponged some of the edges.

I am off now to get a crown!  (Too bad it isn’t for my head.)  Thanks for stopping by! Have a great day, and don’t forget to check out Lindsey’s Inka contest!!

It’s a Jungle out There!

IAJw

Happy Monday!  For those of you who have the day off…LUCKY YOU!!! 🙂

Here’s a second sample using It’s a Jungle out There, one of the new releases by My Favorite Things.  I had fun including all the animals and the girl.  The lion’s head is popped up as well as the monkey’s hat and the girl.

I colored everything with Copic markers….this was my first experience with them actually.  I wish I had included more color/leaves in the background, but once I finished, I was afraid to go back to do more for fear I’d ruin the whole thing.

The patterned paper, Basic Grey Mellow, and brown ribbon-ish twill are from Jacksonbelle Embellishments. By the way, Lindsey has announced her new contest and the prizes are fantastic!  Check it out here.

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!
